The Habit Burger Grill has recently opened two locations in Utah – one in our very awesome neighborhood of Sugarhouse, and one in Farmington. The Habit Burger grill started in Santa Barbara, where they had a simple commitment – to sell the best burgers in town. Of course, now Habit Burger has expanded all over California, into Arizona and now, Utah. We are happy to welcome them to the neighborhood!
It is no secret that I am sort of a health food junkie – but when a girl wants as burger, she wants a burger. The Habit Burger is a bit different because they offer some great healthy options on their menu like whole wheat buns (YES! Dear other restaurants, if you are NOT offering whole wheat options, you are bumming me out). Additionally, their french fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries are only cooked with 100% trans fat-free oil. These two things alone make Habit Burger stand out a bit more than the average burger joint.
Habit Burger is known for their charbroiled burgers, so we knew that was part of or order right away. We ordered a #1 Charburger (100% fresh ground beef with crisp lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, mayo, and pickles $6.20).
For our side, we were able to get half onion rings and half fries! You don’t have to settle for one or the other, people. We also ordered a side of the sweet potato fries–because, why not? The onion rings were our favorite.
We wanted to try a few of Habit Burger’s grilled sandwiches. A fellow foodie had recommended their Fresh Albacore Tuna (hand cut and filleted tuna steak with teriyaki glaze, crisp lettuce, tomato, and homemade tartar sauce $6.25), so that definitely made it on our order list. Last, we had to try the Tri-Tip Sandwich on a whole wheat bun (hand cut tri-tip steak with crisp lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and choice of BBQ or teriyaki $6.25).
I have to say – we enjoyed all of these items. The burger was pretty basic, but the toasted bun and seasoned beef set it apart from a lot of other burgers out there. The tri-tip was awesome – the steak was moist and tender (not at all chewy) and the whole wheat bun was also toasted and flavorful. However, by far, our favorite was the Fresh Albacore Tuna. Talk about a perfectly made sandwich. The tuna was flaky and fresh and the tartar sauce was light; the sourdough bread was the perfect choice. Russ isn’t a huge tartar sauce fan, but he loved this sandwich. Also, all the ingredients on each of the sandwiches were super fresh. They aren’t kidding when they say “crisp lettuce.”
Overall, we had a darn tasty meal. I didn’t feel like I had ‘garbage gut’ after eating their food because my stomach wasn’t overtaken by grease and lackluster ingredients. Of course, we didn’t eat every last bite of this food, but a little taste of everything never hurt anyone! Next time, I am going to try some of their delightful looking salads and perhaps even a milkshake. I just might get crazy.
