We stood, on a woven rug
in the middle of golden trees
and mineral dirt, to hold hands
across a space we hadn’t
yet crossed. Next to a
quiet river, and rock formations
that were born long before –
we became new;
not one and not separate,
but different. Changed.
Expanded. And for a moment
I saw our entire lives
in my mind, as I imagine
it happens right before death.

You, cradling children,
reading books,
instructing in oil changes.
Me, cooking large meals,
planting flowers, braiding hair.
We are a family now, before
our family has even existed.
And I knew I was completely found.
Completely happy.
Completely loved.
Wedded. Locked.
