Billy Blanco’s | Park City

You guys – I am not usually one for the kitschy themed restaurants – mostly because you have to deal with all the paraphernalia on the wall and then probably get a sub-par meal that costs, at the very minimum, $88 per person (think Hard Rock Cafe \\ Planet Hollywood). It has never been my thing. So, when I first walked through the door of Billy Blanco’s in Jeremy Ranch/Park City – I was a little reticent. There are a lot of motorcycles, folks. …..A lot…..

However, let me say this before we move on — I left loving it.

First, the hearty cocktails served in large mason jars allowed the motorcycle madness to fade to the background — as well as the very friendly bartender who served us for 20 minutes or so while waiting for a table. My grapefruit sangria was outstanding.  Also, the chips and salsa were great. I love it when a restaurant gives you more than one salsa option. I mean, they don’t have to — one good salsa can be fine (as long as it is good). BUT TWO? Yeah, that makes me feel like at least one of those options are going to be satisfactory. And honestly, all the salsas/dips we had at Billy Blanco’s were fresh and tasty.

Second, the nachos. To be more specific, the CARNE ASADA nachos (Housemade tortilla chips, black beans, crema, pickled jalapeños, black olives, melted Jack and cheddar cheese. Add: Grilled Chicken  / Chile Lime Shrimp  / Carne Asada  / Blackened Mahi). Maybe one of the best plates of nachos I have had in a long long time. There was a legitimate and sizable portion of steak, cooked perfectly, atop those nachos — which was surprising and welcomed. When I dream of nachos, these are the ones I dream of.

Also, super filling.

Which is why we stuck to the appetizer menu.

Third, chicken lime soup (Tender chicken, cilantro, crispy tortilla strips, tomatillo chicken broth and queso fresco, available vegan upon request, $) and fourth, chile lime chicken wings (with cotija cheese and dipping sauce).

The soup — so wonderful for a dinner on the patio. Great lime flavor, tender chicken, and just an overall great balance. The wings? Crispy. Not one bit of sogginess to them. The jam-packed flavor punch of these wings is one to remember.

We were happy eaters….and we didn’t even get to the dinner menu.

Now, I get that some people really love a themed restaurant (unlike my bah humbug-ness). And, if you like motorcycles then Billy Blanco’s is quite the site (and actually a pretty classy joint, all motor-related decor considered). But the REAL reason you should check out this restaurant is for the REALLY good food they are serving up.

It is worth the drive.
