Goldener Hirsch | Stay & Eat In Beautiful Deer Valley

Goldener Hirsch Inn

You may or may not have heard of the quaint, family-run boutique inn right in the heart of Deer Valley called the Goldener Hirsch.

 If you haven’t, pay attention.

Deer Valley, (and Goldener Hirsch specifically), isn’t simply just a destination for skiers, or even vacationers. If you enjoy wonderful food, craft cocktails, and cozy suites complete with fire places and complimentary hot coco and cookies — there is every reason for ANY Utah local to check it out.

In fact, what got me up to the Goldener Hirsch was their Aprés Ski and renowned restaurant. I don’t ski. I am not even what you would call an “outdoors enthusiast” (just ask my very outdoorsy husband). However, every experience we had at the Goldener Hirsch — from the wonderful service, the welcoming and homey feel of the Inn, the fun and educated bartenders and creative cocktails, to one of the better meals I have had in a while, our quick staycation at Goldener Hirsch will not soon be forgotten.

If you missed the SLC Sidecar post on
Goldener Hirsch’s Aprés Ski,

Interesting Goldener Hirsch Inn Details

Goldener Hirsch is a AAA-Four Diamond property and is a sister-inn of one located in Salzburg, Austria – in fact, they look nearly identical. Due to this design, you truly feel transported, even if you are only doing a quick staycation. The 20 rooms are relaxed and settled right next to the ski slopes and furnished with hand-carved and painted furniture, down comforters, terry cloth robes and slippers, wood-burning stoves, private balconies, and my favorite – huge soaking bathtubs. And don’t worry, a complimentary European breakfast is included in your stay as well.

The Goldener Hirsch Inn has been family owned and operated by the Spencer F. Eccles family since 1992 and was recently voted the country’s “Best Ski Boutique Hotel” at the 2013 and 2015 World Ski Awards.

If you are looking for a place you can really get away, enjoy outstanding service and a comfortable, but magical atmosphere – take a little trip up to Deer Valley and indulge at the Goldener Hirsch. The details make it such a fantastic experience, even if you are only there for a night or two.

Let’s talk about the food. Because really, so much about any vacation or staycation is all about what you eat and the atmosphere you can submerse yourself in.

The Goldener Hirsch Restaurant is gorgeous, and not only that – they are serving up some interesting and beautiful food. Chef Ryan Burnham is doing creative Alpine cuisine with a seasonal American spin, and is very committed to using local ingredients in healthy and delicious ways. His plates not only taste amazing, but they create memories.

Here is just a sampling of some of the wonderful food Chef Ryan Burnham
is creating at the Goldener Hirsch Inn Restaurant.

Whatever you do, don’t miss the Cheese Fondue with traditional accompaniments ($45).
Silky, beautiful, pungent (I mean that in the BEST way possible) cheese –
complete with apples, vegetables, and bread for dipping.
Plenty to share with a group, and worth every penny.

Warm Mushroom Salad | Humbolt Fog Chevre, Bacon, Hazlenuts, Solara Sherry ($17)
The mushroom, sherry, and cheese were an absolutely PERFECT combination.

This beautiful plate is the Fruits de Mer | Caviar, Oyster, Crab, Scallop, Ocean Trout ($26):
Wonderful, unique things happening in a gorgeous row!

My favorite of the evening was the housemade duck sausage
from the VERY creative spin on “Surf and Turf” |
Diver Scallops, Duck Sausage, Belgian Endive, Burnt Honey ($46)

Goldener Hirsch
Willis Ranch Lamb Loin
| Parsnips, Mushroom Marmalade, Swiss Chard, Lamb Reduction ($39)
An amazing cut of lamb, cooked to perfection and seasoned impeccably.

I mean, the food was simply beautiful — and tasted as lovely is it looked!

And while Goldener Hirsch Inn Restaurant has many incredible dessert options,
we were simply too stuffed to overdo it —
so, housemade ice cream and ice wine it was!
It was actually a perfect, light finish to an incredible meal.

At every turn, I was impressed with our experience at this enchanting property. The staff, the accommodations, the food, the cocktails — it was all top notch. I am so happy we were able to get to know this wonderful place and we will be back!

Head up and for their Aprés Ski and enjoy cocktails, take your beloved up for a fancy meal this Valentine’s day, or stay overnight and enjoy everything Goldener Hirsch has to offer. You won’t be disappointed!

  1. It’s interesting that the Deer Valley hotel makes a lot of references to being named after the hotel in Salzburg. When I went into the hotel in Salzburg and asked about the Deer Valley hotel the concierge said he’d heard it existed, but it was not their hotel, he knew nothing about it, and they had no relationship with it. It appears to be a one way love fest.

    • Oh wow – that is really interesting and surprising! The Goldener was designed based on the Salzburg hotel, and the staff spoke very highly of it. Mostly, I am just jealous of your trip to Salzburg in general. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!
