I am super happy to bring you one of my favorite cocktails I have ever created, with links to some of the specific libations and products you can order right from Drizly.

With the holidays coming up and lots of entertaining about to happen, you can be sure you’ll love having things like cocktails being an easy part of your gatherings.

The Dark and Rye cocktail brings together the heaviness of Bulleit’s beautiful Rye, the velvet texture of Creme de Cassis, the sweet and sour of lemon and raspberry simple syrup, and the boldness of black tea. It is perfect for colder days — boozy, heavy, and balanced.

2 oz Bulleit Rye
.05 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1.0 oz Creme De Cassis
.05 oz raspberry simple syrup
2 Dashes Crude Hibiscus, Lavender, and Oak Bitters
(I used Crude, but Drizly also has a
great variety of bitters on its site)

Serve in a chilled coupe.

The great thing about this cocktail is that while there are quite a few ingredients, the process itself is super simple. I had made some raspberry simple syrup a a week or so back, and that is so great to have on hand for a variety of cocktails. And, it worked perfect in this one.

(Raspberry simple syrup is incredibly easy to make: equal parts sugar and water, add in 8 – 10 raspberries, bring to a boil, let cool, then strain. Last for about 2 -3 weeks in your fridge.)

Then, all the ingredients go in the shaker at once — so the intense shaking of this cocktail is super important. Shake vigorously for a good 15 – 20 seconds, until that shaker gets so cold you can barely hold it anymore. This will add some nice ice crystals to your cocktail and give it great texture and keep it colder, longer.

All you need for garnish is a beautiful lemon twist, and you are set.
Easy — but also a cocktail that will surely impress.

*One thing to notetea, especially black tea, is a great ingredient for cocktails. I don’t think people use it enough. It can really enhance flavors from darker spirits like rye, bourbon, barrel aged gin, and darker rums. It can also incorporate other earthy tones, without the intensity that some bitters can create. Some of my favorite homebar recipes include brewing some tea and using even just an ounce or two! Try it!*
