Utah Opera Libretti and Libations Cocktail Crawl – Heartbeat Nosh

The Utah Opera season has begun! 2016-2017 is starting off with one of the most well-known and beloved Operas, Carmen. And, for the 3rd year in a row, restaurants and bars across the city are creating amazing cocktails inspired but the story of Carmen: loyalty, jealousy, love, betrayal, passion, and violence all playing a role in this Spanish opera!

To gear up for Libretti and Libations, a few fun things happened.

Andrea from Bitters Lab and I, along with Ginamarie from Utah Opera, did a Facebook Live, where we created our OWN Carmen-themed cocktail. You can watch the video by clicking below — and learn how to make an authentic Spanish Gin and Tonic.

I also hosted a cocktail crawl in partnership with Utah Opera, Salt Lake magazine, and Bitters Lab! We had such an amazing time visiting four of my favorite local spots, hearing about the Carmen-inspired cocktails, and making new friends. Thanks to FINCA, The Vault at Bambara, BTG Wine Bar, and HSL! The crowd of over 30 Opera and cocktail enthusiasts was wonderful!

Here are some photos from the crawl and the cocktails we were able to try! You can also find out who else is participating in Libretti and Libations, and create your own cocktail crawl. If you share a photo of a Carmen cocktail and use #UtahOperaSips, you will be entered to win tickets to see the show.

Carmen opened on October 8th, and you have a
limited time to see this Opera —
so make sure to get your tickets today!
