Cocktail Club | Holiday Eggnog with Bourbon

Cocktail Club by Heartbeat NoshAnother HBN Cocktail Club in the books! And we are getting really good at doing things with festive flair – ugly sweater style! This month, we created a holiday eggnog with bourbon. I have only had homemade eggnog one other time in my life, so I was really looking forward to this month’s cocktail. And let me just say, the effort of making fresh eggnog is worth the work! It is WAY better than anything you can buy at the store. So, gather your ingredients and get going! There are only a few more weeks left to consume a horrendous amount of calories and not feel bad about it. 🙂

December Cocktail Club Hostess: Jonda

Cocktail Club JondaJonda is one of the best people I know. Always well-intentioned, always fun, always hysterical – and she is a grammar guru like me. Jonda is also very detail oriented and super talented with crafty stuff, so her night for hosting HBN Cocktail Club was pretty epic. Not only was her house a Christmas wonderland, she knew that taking on a eggnog cocktail was quite a challenge. First challenge being that creating and presenting this cocktail could be difficult. Eggnog takes a lot of preparation, not all of which you can do in front of an audience of 10 – 15 loud ladies. So, Jonda and her awesome hubby created a video about how to cook this holiday bevvy….and it is awesome! Thank you, Jonda, for putting so much time and effort into making this month’s Cocktail Club memorable. I am so happy you are my sister wife (inside joke, folks).

(recipe by Alton Brown)

Ingredients:

4 Egg Yolks
4 Egg Whites
1/3 Cup Sugar, Plus 1 Tablespoon
1 Pint Whole Milk
1 Cup Heavy Cream
3 Ounces (ish) Bourbon
1 Teaspoon Freshly Grated Nutmeg

Directions:

Beat egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Set aside.

Over high heat, combine milk, heavy cream, and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and gradually temper hot mixture into egg and sugar mixture. Return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F.

Remove from heat, stir in the bourbon, pour into punchbowl and chill.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine egg whites and 1 tablespoon sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the chilled mixture.

Garnish with a pinch of grated nutmeg.

Now, you must all watch this amazing video for step-by-step instructions! Share it far and wide – let’s make Jonda famous. 😉

And, here are a few more photos for you to enjoy! Happy Holidays, everyone!
I hope you have a very lovely Christmas and New Year and whatever else you might be celebrating.
