Cocktail Club | The Blood Orange Margarita – Halloween Style!
This month, we went all out and had a bonafide Halloween costume party for HBN Cocktail Club. It was pretty awesome. Not only did we have a delicious and creative cocktail, but everyone dressed up – Courtney Love, Frankenstein, and Dr. Who all made an appearance. This month, we featured locally owned Vida Tequila, which you may have had in a myriad of cocktails around the valley. It’s smooth and lovely and definitely stands above many of the tequilas on the liquor store shelf. You will pay a little extra, but it’s worth it! And of course, we always like to support a local brand, right?
October Hostess: Alissa
Alissa is basically my little sister. I grew up hanging out with her twin older sisters for most of my life – and come to find out, we are all still hanging out regularly in our 30’s. It is awesome. Alissa is hysterical, funny, and comical. Was that redundant? In a nutshell, she is one of the darned funniest people I know. She works at City Weekly, has two cute little pooches, and is married to Blake, who is an incredible artist. She also makes a great Blood Orange Margarita. Thanks for hosting, Alissa!
October Cocktail: Blood Orange Margarita,
featuring Vida Tequila
Ingredients
1/4 cup blood orange juice (Alissa used Blood Orange Pellegrino, which added a nice sparkling note!)
1/4 cup Blanco Vido Tequila
1/4 cup Triple Sec
2 Tbsp Lime Juice
1 tsp Agave Nectar
Sea Salt is optional for rim, as well as FAKE BLOOD! Buahhahaha!
Then, simply shake and serve. Ta da!
A good tequila is key to this beverage. Using Vida gave this margarita a very smoothy and classy quality – with virtually no bite (not a metaphor!). This cocktail would be lovely using freshly squeezed blood orange juice as well – but really, the pellegrino offered a twist that was refreshing. However you decide to change up this fun cocktail, it is great for parties – especially those of the Halloween variety coming up!
