Kobe Sushi | Where to Go For Ramen in Salt Lake City

Finding a good, somewhat authentic bowl of Ramen isn’t the easiest thing to do in Salt Lake City. Not many restaurants do Ramen, let alone do it well. But never fear, there is one SLC restaurant that is doing Ramen incredibly well, offering over six different varieties of Ramen to choose from. Kobe Sushi is an inconspicuous little restaurant, located in the Olympus Hills area off of Wasatch Blvd…and their Ramen is magical. Kobe Sushi itself has been at this location for quite a while, however, it is now under new ownership, with a new chef! Having only been to Kobe for the first time recently, I can’t speak to its past; however, with Ramen this flavorful – their future is looking very bright.

If you don’t know much about traditional Ramen – do some Googling. It is nothing like those square, $0.33 packets you find at the grocery store. Ramen can provide amazing flavor with the broth, let alone, the variety of ingredients that can be found in a good bowl of Ramen. Kobe Sushi offers several different options. My personal favorite is the Mabo-men Ramen, which is home to spicy ground pork and probably the best tasting Ramen broth I have ever had.

The other Ramen that we tried was the Creamy Tonkotsu Ramen with pork – which was also great. The broth was a little more mild than the spicy Mabo-men, but wonderful. The Tonkotsu had more ingredients as well – including a very tender cut of pork, fish balls, bean sprouts, hard-boiled egg, and bok choy. Yum. On a really cold winter day, I want a little more spice (the Mabo-men is perfect for that craving), but the Tonkotsu Ramen is one of those dishes you could eat year round, no problem. All Ramen bowls range in price from about $9 – $12.

Last, we also tried Kobe’s Agadashi Tofu (one of my favorite Japanese dishes). The tofu was forgotten and came out late to the table, but the server was very apologetic and gave us the dish for free. I am also happy to report that the tofu was tasty – much more flavor than the typical agadashi tofu I have had. Kobe’s chef really has the flavor punch down.

This visit didn’t include sushi, as we went specifically for the Ramen options, but what I saw coming out of the sushi bar looked fresh and interesting. We will definitely be back to get a fuller taste of the menu. But for now, if Ramen is on my mind, Kobe Sushi is going to be my first thought. It should also be yours!
