Z’Tejas – New Cocktails to Knock Your Socks Off

I am not usually one who loves or frequents “chain” restaurants. But for some reason, I don’t really feel like Z’Tejas falls in that category. There aren’t so many Z’Tejas Restaurants that they compromise quality and uniqueness – and they also change up their menu fairly often, which is something that other “chain restaurants” rarely do. I always really enjoy myself when I eat there and almost always love what I order. This trip to Z’Tejas, however, was all about the cocktails.

Z’Tejas just released a new drink book with several new and interesting additions to the mix. So if you are sick of the boring old go-to margarita, check out some of these new flavors.

The first new cocktail we tried was the Tres Chile Margarita ($8.50). This sucker has a kick! Made with Don Julio Blanco Tequila, Herradura, Agave Nectar, lime juice, triple sec, red and green pepper and an ancho paprika salted rim – you know you are going to get a flavor punch straight in the mouth. This is great for pairing with a milder dish. You don’t want to overload yourself with heat. Yum!

The Pineapple Blossom Margarita ($8.50) was also pretty good. However, this cocktail more resembled a mojito in my opinion–which isn’t a bad thing. Made with Jimador Reposado Tequila, St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Herradura Agave Nectar, lime juice, fresh pineapple and mint – this cocktail was super refreshing and the mint helped everything go down smooth without being too sweet.

Z’Tejas also has a new menu full of “Skinny” drinks – which I know most of us can appreciate since the average cocktail can have upwards of 300 calories or more. Each of the drinks on their Skinny menu have under 250 calories. We tried the Antioxidant Martini ($8.25), which was rich, frothy, and perfect for dessert! Made with BACARDI Dragon Berry, fresh lemon juice, Herradura Agave Nectar, fresh blackberries and blueberries, topped with Wild Berry FOMZ – this is a decadent cocktail that can stand on its own. No need for food. 🙂

And to save the best for last, our MOST favorite cocktail off the new menu was the Pepper Melon Margarita ($8.50). This refreshing cocktail is made with 1800 Silver Tequila, Monin Watermelon, triple sec,
fresh watermelon and jalapeños and is to die for. Sweet, spicy, and light – this is a cocktail that could get you in trouble with its smooth, easy flavor; if you know what I mean. 😉 Not too sweet, not to spicy. Put this one at the top of your list!

I also have to give props to some of the food we had at Z’Tejas this time around. The table-side guacamole was great and the avocados they used were super fresh. The pan seared dumplings were outstanding as well. The only thing that was a bummer about our visit is that one of my favorite all time dishes is no longer on the menu! The Chicken Artichoke Stack is now the Pepita Crusted Chicken (Cilantro pesto chicken breast coated with pumpkin seeds, layered with sweet potato hash, spinach, artichokes and mushrooms, served with roasted poblano sauce. $12.25). I ordered the dish to see how it measured up. Overall the dish was good and I enjoyed the sweet potatoes. However, it will never be the Chicken Artichoke Stack. Bring it back, Z’Tejas! 🙂

So, if you want a fun cocktail on a nice patio – now is the time! I highly recommend some of their new fun cocktails and it is a great place to eat before a movie or for lunch and shopping. Get there!
